Hello!
So I'm kind of a new player to this server, but I've been playing Ragnarok for twelve years + right now being on multiple servers and etc.
Firstly why I'm making this thread is to give "newbies" like myself some information on how to use commands, what commands to use that are helpful, what to expect, what equipment is ideal for each class (Headgear, Costumes, Armor, Weapons, Accessories, and Cards) to do PvP (Player Versus Player), PvM (Player Versus monster), and PvE (Player versus everything) and idea of what they should quest for/buy for their characters to make a more adverse, competitive, and friendly environment.
Secondly I wanted to provide some food for thought on some things I've noticed on this server in my time being here...
The freebies, instant levels, and easy quests are fantastic.
Thank you to the GM staff and the owner for giving these wonderful items out and giving instructions to receive these items in game.
However, lets say someone is very new to Ragnarok. This server can be quite confusing. I have personally invited a few (Around a dozen) of my friends to give this high rate server a chance and to play it as they would some of the other servers that we play... That being said, there's not a whole lot of explanations on the operations of things and where things are. I will break things down in different categories from this point on.
Starting: When you first start the server and log in with your very first character you are presented with an NPC that says "Freebies" and you get some items from that NPC. As a normal player that doesn't know any better I assume this is it for the "Freebies", only to see an announcement posted often in the server broadcast.
Example: Post on our FB page your name and type @request for delivery)
The problem with this, is that someone just starting thinks they got the freebies right then and there at the very beginning from the NPC that gives them. Asking for more "freebies" from the GM team seems like a "greedy" move and most people are reluctant to try it (Hint: All of the people that have joined because of me asked about this very same thing). Thus you do not end up with all the starting items you could be starting with (And that is promised on the webpage).
Also, when you type just straight "@request" it literately does nothing. Thus making the instructions misleading. This again makes you think you've been mislead from the game/website in the very beginning. You need to write "@request "Message"" or something similar or else nothing will happen for you. This is not mentioned in the server broadcast. Thus it seems like a waste of time to try to new players.
Job Changer: After receiving your "Freebies" from the NPC (Non Playable Character) you HAVE to talk to, you are immediately transported to the job changer room. You are presented with a variety of questions. Do you want first job, second job, trans job, extended jobs, etc.
Me first hand... I chose a thief starting. I figured I'd be a thief and have to level my way to being a Assassin Cross. So I became a Thief even seeing the "Transcended Jobs" option in the list (Personally I figured you'd have the absolute bare minimum of skills from this option meaning you'd have less skill points to have your skills over all in the very end. Normally portrayed in the "Easy way out" there's a punishment for doing it). However, the option is misleading and choosing a thief means you will be a thief forever. No where in the instructions does it say you will be level 255 base level and max job level coming out and forever stuck as that class. So if you choose the wrong class (Like I did) you have to delete that recently made character because it is permanently stuck in that form. No excuses. No explanation.
Deleting: No where is it stated that you only receive the items you did only once per entire account lifetime. I found this out the hard way while deleting a character and creating a new one (See above). I quickly realized I never received the "Freebies" I did on my first character. So I had to undo the delete I did on the first and use @storage command to put the newly gotten items. The newly free items I received were in storage and I had to start the deletion process again after undoing the delete in the first place. Again after receiving these items I thought I had already gotten every item that was free to get. Why would I bother the staff for more items when I already got free items when I first started? Even with the announcement, to me it seemed like it was aimed at older players so they could receive the same free items as a new player because they never got the chance at the items/kills/loot before the new players could got there.
A Whole New World: So now that you logged in, got the job classes right, and are well in to the game now with your items... You have no idea what to do. I asked myself "What next" when I got here, "What do I do? What does what?" I see a bunch of NPC's on the left and on the right, yet I have no idea what any of them are or what they do. "I'm level 255,and max job level. So I don't go out and farm. I'm maxed out." is what I said to myself.
Events: There are multiple events going on (Poring catcher, Disguise Event, Guess The Number, etc.)
Though to the brand new player, these things can be confusing.
Example: Guess the number is said to appear in the "Turbo Room!" with no explanation to where or how to access the "Turbo Room".
Example: @warp is never truly explained. (As someone like myself that is versed in Ragnarok Online and the many servers it has, gets the command. New players may not be familiar with the system.)
To be continued (I have a lot more on my mind and I will edit it soon with more information, but in this beginning phase this is my experience and I know I'm not the only one).
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS PURELY INFORMATIVE TO THE STAFF TO INCREASE THE COMFORT ABILITY OF PLAYERS AND TO SPREAD AWARENESS FOR THE NEW PLAYERS. THIS IS IN NO MEANS MEANT TO CRITICIZE OR BELITTLE THE OWNER OR THE STAFF.
